A WordPress to HubSpot migration has five stages: **inventory** every URL, **build** the HubSpot theme and modules, **move** the content, **redirect** every old URL to its new home, and **monitor** Search Console for 30 days after launch. Most migrations that lose rankings skip or rush the inventory and redirect steps.

This is the checklist we use for our own [WordPress to HubSpot migration](https://www.pixtheme.com/services/wordpress-to-hubspot-migration) projects. Copy it, adapt it to your site, and tick it off as you go.

## Stage 1: Inventory everything before you build

- **Export every URL.** Use your WordPress sitemap and a crawler such as Screaming Frog to list all pages, posts, categories, tags, author pages and media files that are indexed.
- **Pull your top pages from Google Search Console.** Export the Pages report for the last 12 months. Any URL with clicks or impressions needs a planned destination.
- **Find your backlinks.** Pages that other sites link to must redirect to a relevant page, never just the homepage.
- **Record titles and meta descriptions** for pages that rank. Keep them unless you have a reason to change them.
- **List every form, plugin and integration** and decide what replaces each one in HubSpot.
- **Decide what not to move.** Thin, outdated or duplicate pages can be merged into stronger pages with a redirect.

Put all of this in one spreadsheet with columns for the old URL, the new URL, the page's traffic and its status. It becomes your redirect map later.

## Stage 2: Build the HubSpot theme and modules

- **Choose a theme or build a custom one.** A well-built Marketplace theme saves time; a custom theme fits unusual designs and editing needs.
- **Map each WordPress page type to a HubSpot template**: home, service, landing page, blog post, blog listing, legal.
- **Turn repeated sections into modules** with clear fields, so editors can build new pages without code.
- **Rebuild forms as HubSpot forms** so submissions create contacts in your CRM.
- **Add structured data and social share images** to the theme, so every page gets them by default.
- **Test on HubSpot's preview links** before connecting your domain. Previews are not indexed, so you can test freely.

## Stage 3: Move the content

- **Import blog posts** with HubSpot's blog import tool, then check formatting, images and embedded media on a sample of posts.
- **Keep blog URLs the same where you can.** If your WordPress posts lived at `/blog/post-name`, set up the HubSpot blog at `/blog` so most slugs match and need no redirect.
- **Rebuild key pages with modules** rather than pasting old HTML into rich text, so they stay editable.
- **Upload images to HubSpot's file manager** and give each one alt text.
- **Recreate authors and tags** so author and tag pages exist where needed.

## Stage 4: Plan and build the redirects

Redirects are what carry your rankings to the new site. HubSpot manages them under *Settings → Content → Domains & URLs → URL redirects*.

- **Use 301 (permanent) redirects** for every URL that changes.
- **Redirect each old URL to its closest match**, not to the homepage. Google treats mass homepage redirects like missing pages.
- **Use flexible pattern redirects for whole sections**, for example old category archives or date-based post URLs, instead of hundreds of single rows.
- **Include the domain when you have more than one.** A path-only redirect such as `/demo` applies to every domain connected to your HubSpot account. If the new page lives on another domain at the same path, the redirect can loop. Write the source as `www.example.com/demo` instead.
- **Avoid chains.** If an old URL already redirected somewhere, point it straight at the final URL.
- **Handle WordPress leftovers:** `/feed/`, `/wp-content/uploads/` files with backlinks, and `?p=123` style links in old emails.

## Stage 5: Launch day

1. Lower your DNS TTL a day before, then connect your domain to HubSpot and wait for SSL to be issued.
2. Turn on **Require HTTPS** for the domain and check that `http://` and non-www URLs redirect correctly.
3. Import your redirect map, then test a sample of old URLs with a redirect checker: each should return one 301 and then a 200.
4. Confirm the HubSpot tracking code and any other analytics are firing.
5. Submit the new XML sitemap in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
6. Submit a test entry on every form and check that it reaches the CRM.

## Stage 6: The first 30 days

- **Check Search Console's Pages report weekly** for new "Not found (404)" errors and add redirects for any you missed.
- **Compare clicks and impressions** for your top 20 pages against the weeks before launch. Small dips are normal while Google recrawls; steady drops point to a redirect or content problem.
- **Request indexing** for your most important new pages.
- **Keep redirects in place permanently.** Removing them later breaks old backlinks and bookmarks.
- **Cancel WordPress hosting only after** you have confirmed every important URL redirects correctly.

## Common migration mistakes

- Redirecting everything to the homepage.
- Changing every URL structure at once without a reason.
- Forgetting subdomains, such as an old `blog.` or `docs.` subdomain whose DNS record gets deleted. Those URLs then fail completely instead of redirecting.
- Pasting old WordPress HTML into rich text modules, leaving pages your team can't edit.
- Launching without testing forms end to end.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will I lose my Google rankings if I move from WordPress to HubSpot?

Not if you keep your important URLs or redirect them one-to-one, keep titles and content on pages that rank, and fix 404s quickly after launch. A short fluctuation while Google recrawls is normal.

### How long does a WordPress to HubSpot migration take?

A small site with a theme can move in two to four weeks. Large sites with custom design, hundreds of posts and integrations take longer, mostly because of content and redirect work.

### Can HubSpot import my WordPress blog?

Yes. HubSpot's blog import brings posts across, but always review formatting, images and embeds before launch.

### Do I need a developer to migrate to HubSpot?

For a simple site on a ready-made theme, a careful marketer can do much of it. Custom themes, modules, integrations and large redirect maps are where a [HubSpot developer](https://www.pixtheme.com/hire-hubspot-developer) saves time and protects your rankings.
